Birth Doula Profile - Christina Durant CD(DONA)
Christina Durant is a DONA-certified birth doula who believes in providing judgement-free, evidence- based support to women and their loved ones through the exciting, and sometimes overwhelming, event of pregnancy and childbirth.
Christina grew up on an alpaca farm in northern Vermont where she witnessed the miracle of birth in its four-legged form long before she even knew about doulas. She attended the University of Vermont, where she majored in English and Anthropology. Her studies introduced her to the anthropological concept of ‘cultural relativism’, or the belief that a person’s beliefs, values, and practices should be understood on that person’s own culture and not judged against the criteria of another.
While in an academic setting, this concept was meant to apply to populations, however Christina has derived great value in embracing it on a personal level. She believes that few things in life are ‘one-size-fits-all’—pregnancy and birth included. As such, she focuses on helping her clients weed through the information and options available. She seekd to empower them to make the most well-informed decisions they can based on the unique needs of their pregnancies, families, and themselves.
In her free time Christina is an avid traveler and enjoys reading, archery, and artistic projects. She lives with her husband and two giant cats, Ziggy and Meeko.
