Breastfeeding Consultations - Phone and in home visits available
If you are a typical mom giving birth today, you are likely to receive one to two days of breastfeeding help in the hospital (which may or may not come from a qualified lactation specialist), and then you're on your own. As you might imagine, this approach is not proving to be particularly successful. First time moms need more help in the days and weeks that follow, as you and your baby figure things out. And because every baby is a unique individual, even experienced nursing moms may require additional support with a new baby who is different from the first.
The first few weeks of breastfeeding can be very trying times--but rest assured that with the proper support you can do it. Please don't be a martyr! Oftentimes a simple suggestion is all it takes to make your life MUCH easier. Most moms need extra support during this early period of adjustment (it will get better!); other moms may find they need help later on, when going back to work or dealing with other issues that may arise.
Birthing Gently offers private Breastfeeding Consultations by appointment, with our Certified Breastfeeding Counselors. You can trust that the advice you receive is based on current research and identified best practices, to support you in your decision to breastfeed your baby.
If you have ANY questions or concerns, if it is painful to nurse your baby, if you are "hooked" on nipple shields, if baby is gaining weight slowly or not at all, please don't spend another day worrying or wondering. We can address all the common concerns, check your baby's latch, and provide simple, helpful adjustments to relieve your discomfort and promote a successful breastfeeding relationship. We can help you identify the more serious concerns, and refer you on to a Lactation Consultant when necessary.
PLEASE don't wait until you feel like giving up to ask for help! Invest in your breastfeeding relationship now, so your child can be rewarded for a lifetime.
